Twenty two sailors where greeted with sunshine and a gusty north westerly breeze as they arrived for the two day Firefly Open Meeting at West Oxfordshire S.C. on 29th September. The Firefly Open Meeting at WOSC always tries to provide a different format for the racing each year and this year was no exception.
Saturday’s format was a five race sprint series with one discard. Each race was an average of 35 minutes long which combined with the compact courses made good starting essential. The Sunday Series consisted of two races with no discard. The wind had increased slightly compared with Saturday and had moved round more to the North enabling a course to be set that included slightly longer beats.

Overall victory went to home boat Tony Thresher and Mike Radford, with Tom Lonsdale and Emily Herridge’s consistency being rewarded with 2nd and Chris and Simon’s good showing on Sunday pulling them through into third overall.
