NOTICE OF RACE

Bough Beech reservoir is situated in the Weald of Kent between Sevenoaks & Edenbridge.  

 

Organising Authority: Bough Beech Sailing Club in association with

                                      the Firefly Class Association.

 

 

 

 

 

1.     Rules:

1.1  The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the “Racing Rules of 

Sailing 2009” (RRS) the RYA prescriptions, the rules of the Wayfarer Class Association, the “Notice of Race” and the Sailing Instructions, (SIs).

1.2  In the event of any conflict between these rules, those of the SI’s shall prevail.

1.3  The exoneration penalty (and the advisory and RYA Arbitration) of the RYA Rules disputes procedures may be available.

 

2.     Changes to RRS Rules:

                  The following RRS Rules will be changed:

·       RRS 35; Time limit.

·       RRS 40; Buoyancy aids will be worn at all times afloat.

·       RRS 61.3 and 62.2; Protest and redress request time limit.

·       RRS 63.1; Hearings.

·       RRS 64.1 (a); penalties and exoneration.

·       RRS A5; Scoring of late starters.

·       Race signals ICF “L”; Instructions by the Race Committee from the committee boat.

The changes will appear in full in the SI’s.

The SI’s may also change other racing rules.

 

3.     Eligibility and Entry:

3.1  The regatta is open to all boats of the Firefly Class.

3.2  Boats may only be entered by members of the Firefly Class Association using the official entry form.

3.3  All entrants must be members of an RYA affiliated club.

3.4  Eligible boats may enter for one, or two days racing, by completing the attached form and sending it together with the required fee to;

Pre event entries are to arrive before Friday 2nd November 2012.

3.5  Late entries will be accepted up to 11:00hrs on Saturday 3rd November, or 10:30hrs on Sunday 4th November, for those wishing to enter only for that day.

3.6  Substitution of helm or crew after registration will only be considered following written application to the Race Committee.

 

4.     Fees: 

4.1  Required fees are as follows;

£25.00 per boat for the two day event (six races), or £15.00 for one day (three races).

4.2  The event is also open to youth helms and crews under the age of 18 yrs. on

4th November 2012, and students at a reduced rate of;

£15.00 per boat for the two day event, or £10.00 for one day.

4.3  Cheques should be made payable to “Bough Beech SC” and accompany the 

entry form.

 

 

 

 

 

5.     Schedule: 

5.1  Registration will take place in the clubhouse from 9:00hrs on Saturday 3rd  

November.

5.2  Briefing; Saturday 3rd November, 10:45hrs. Sunday 4th November, TBA.

5.4  The Race Committee reserves the right to change the number of races sailed per day at its discretion.

 

6.     Measurement:

6.1  Each boat shall comply with the current class rules Failure to do so may result in disqualification without a hearing.

6.2  At the discretion of the Race Committee boats may be subject to scrutiny and/or measurement at any time, before, during or after the event.

 

7.     Sailing Instructions:

7.1  The Sailing Instructions will be available at registration and may also be downloaded at www.boughbeechsc.org.uk

 

8.     The Courses:

8.1  The courses to be sailed will be defined in the Sailing Instructions and will be displayed at the club.

 

9.     Scoring:

9.1  The scoring system will be “ISAF Low Points Scoring System” as in RRS (2009-12) Appendix A4.1.

9.2  When fewer than four races are completed a boats score shall be the total of her race scores.

9.3   When four or more races are completed a boats score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

9.4  An event winner will be decided providing one race is completed.

 

10.  Radio Communications:

          10.1 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while 

racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

 

11.  Prizes:

11.1 prizes are provided by the Firefly Class Association however the Bough Beech SC Organising Committee may award prizes at its discretion.

 

12.  Personal Safety:

12.1 The wearing of wetsuits or dry suits will be compulsory. Neither wetsuits nor dry 

suits will be considered adequate buoyancy.

 

13.  Disclaimer of Liability:

13.1 Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4,   

‘Decision to Race’. The Organising Authority will not accept any liability for

material damage or personal injury, or death sustained in conjunction with, or  

            prior to, during or after the regatta.

 

14.  Insurance:

14.1 Each Participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance 

             With minimum cover of £2 million per event, or the equivalent.

Additional Information.

 

Club Membership:

All participants, crews and friends are extended membership privileges for the duration of the event.

 

Social:

The galley will be open all day for a variety of hot and cold food.

 

Camping:

Camping is not permitted within the club grounds or car parks.

Parking;

Parking is available in the club car park. Boats should be rigged in the car park and walked down on their launching trolleys to the slipway. Cars and road trailers must not be left on the approach to, or on the slipways themselves.

 

Security:

Valuables should not be left in the changing rooms or visible in cars.

 

Dogs:

Under the terms of the Sutton & East Surrey Water Company byelaws, dogs are not permitted on the premises of the club, its grounds or car parks.

Under law, this competitor is my dependant. I accept the statement of liability in the Notice of Race and agree to the statements contained within it. During the event, the boat sailed by my dependant will have a valid and current third party insurance of at least £2m.

I confirm that my dependant is competent to take part. I will be responsible for my dependant throughout the event , and during the time he/she is afloat I will be available at the event venue, or I will inform the Race Office in writing who is acting in loco parentis.
