A Calm Start to the GJW Direct 67th Firefly National Championships

A calm sunny (well apart from the measurement hour of rain!) saw 44 fireflies gather on the dock in Torquay, the site of the 1948 Olympics. Veteran Lawrence Cooper came down to see the fleet and remember his time watching at the Olympiad. And the Torquay Coronation regatta in 1937!

Looking through the original programmes shows Torquay as changed very little..

Unfortunately due to lack of wind the fleet saw the practice race abandoned. However with a forecast of more exciting sailing for Sunday the wine started flowing at the Commodore’s reception. Hosted by Mike Ellis in the 150th year of Royal Torbay Yacht Club.

Great prizes from Rooster Sailing and a selection of great sailors should see a competitive week!
