11 crews made the journey to the Spinnaker Club on the 26th Oct for the annual Twisted Tube random pairs team racing event. Spinnaker refined this exciting format over many years, and the event remains popular with sailors just out of the university team racing circuit. Those curious to learn more about team racing are also welcome and get the opportunity to get stuck with the experts under the watchful eyes of a team of experienced umpires.

The club’s fleet of a Fireflies were all used, as well as a number of home boats. Visitors were largely kept at bay by the weather forecast though in the end a stiff breeze and broken sunshine provided perfect conditions. 34 races were sailed which gave most competitors 12 races each. £1.25 per race is probably the best value sailing on the circuit and every race was keenly fought using the natural obstacles and wind shifts provided by the venue.
Sailing the only wooden boat at the event Chris and Ellie had a good day and sailed the course cautiously while the youngsters took care of the team racing, being fortunate to only lose three races. Matt and Toby tied on four losses with Ian Dobson and Lucy Preston but better finishing positions overall gave Matt and Toby second overall.
Many thanks to all the officials and particularly Nigel Vick who managed to get some great photos while umpiring!
