Bottled Firefly and the Hallam Hangover Team Racing 2016

Waiting for the windIn the Autumn of 2016 the Firefly class supported grass roots University Team racing  with massive support from West Kirby Sailing Club, Pennine Sailing Club and Sheffield Hallam University.

Both events were run by Firefly Committee Members Chris Kameen (me) and Charlie Fitzgerald – (one to keep an eye on for the future!) The aim of both events is to gently introduce Fleet racers to the joys of sailing Fireflies and the basics of Team Racing.

At both regattas we lost a bit of time due to light winds – but we used this time to go through some basic presentations:

Some of the key aims for me in running these events is making sure that the sailors themselves realise that they can run events too. They don’t have to be the super slick Wilson Trophy style with near professional race teams. If we all work together we can all have a lot of fun which is ultimately the aim right?
