History
1952 Plymouth Sir Ralph Gore Trophy 85 entries, Brian Southcott, 1st place. Sadly, Brian does not appear in the top six for the Sir Richard Fairey trophy.
This was a remarkable result for Brian Southcott; according to the report in Yachting World Annual, 1953 edition, Brian, a National 12 owner, borrowed this Firefly, this was the first time he had sailed in the class and the first time ever away from the Thames, perhaps based at Tamesis Club.
The following week, Brian raced the National 12’s Burton Week at Weymouth and from 111 entries finished 4th on points, sailing his own boat. Sadly, the YW Annual’s reporter, as usual at the time, made no mention of Brian’s crews, nor their home clubs.
