Fairey Marine records suggest this Firefly was sold as a kit to ER Chawner, Middlesex, and collected from Hamble workshop 11 December 1955; seemingly never registered with Royal Yachting Association or National Firefly Association.
The November 1996 issue of the UK monthly magazine “Classic Boats” reported this Firefly to be on display at Maritime Conservatoire de la Plaisance Museum, Bordeaux; on closure, 2004, she was moved to Musee Maritime de La Rochelle in the care of volunteers of Amis du Musee Maritime.
There was an initial suggestion her sail number might have been F1676, but further investigation by the Museum and NFA Boat Register confirms this to be the Hull Number, her correct sail number being F1649

“Dreamboat”. It is the happy custom of the Museum in La Rochelle, if required to name one of their boats to choose title of a popular song from the era of the boat’s build. “Dreamboat” was a hit record, sung by Alma Cogan, (1932 / 1966) lyrics by Jack Hoffman, in the UK Top Ten for 15 weeks in 1955, peaking at No 1 for two weeks, 27 May.
The Firefly is on display and is regularly exercised by staff and friends of the Museum.
