Steven Greaves reports – “Cumulus” has been owned by the Ellis family for the majority of her life. They were her second owners. She was bought from Hayling Island SC in 1960, re – decked to Mark III design in 1980 and sailed by the Ellis family until around 1991, then laid up. I purchased the boat in 2003 and completely rebuilt it in 2005.

History
Steven Greaves reports –
“Cumulus” started winning National Championships trophies in 1982 in Jonny Ellis’s hands taking the Gore and Sussex Silver Firefly trophies with Jane Ireland (Rickmansworth SC) at Felixstowe Ferry from about 80 entries. They finished 18th in the Sir Richard Fairey trophy points series.
1984 – the Sussex Silver Firefly was won again, the year that “Cumulus” and Jonny and Jane Ireland won the championships, at Mounts Bay from 98 entries.
The last time “Cumulus” was sailed in anger before I rebuilt her was by David Ellis and Mark Hinton at the Pevensey Bay championships in 1991 where they came 3rd from about 60 entries.
Her first Nationals after rebuilding was 2005, and she started winning races again in 2006, taking the final races of the 60th anniversary champs. 2nd South Westerns 2009, and 2nd Nationals 2009
