1956 / 1961 – Ian Boyce, Abbey SC.
NFA Life Member.
Named “Melody”,
see F1638.
Ian reports “this Firefly was fitted with alloy decks and side buoyancy tanks as supplies of suitable plywood and timber were very short so soon after World War II but Fairey Marine had aluminium available as a subsitute. These alloy panels were replaced with plywood during my ownership.”
The image was added January 2020 from a picture postcard which was spotted advertised on ebay; Ian reckons the image was taken early in his ownership, still fitted with the alloy decks and, of course, cotton sails from Ratsey & Lapthorn, Cowes.
Image taken at Abbey SC.
Ian was given twelve copies of the postcard by the publishers by way of “payment”
c1967 – D Smart, Aylesbury SC,
named “Snodgrass”
