Known Owners

.
1st owner – John Macpherson Powell, Felixstowe Ferry SC

Collected from Fairey Marine workshop 10 May. No sails supplied, perhaps the owner anticipating the introduction of potentially faster terylene sails from Ratsey & Lapthorn, Cowes for 1959?

c 1972 – Richard Hopkins, Felixstowe Ferry SC

c 1995 – Neil Banks, Chipstead SC, previously Felixstowe Ferry SC. (See F2129, F3334, F3532 & F3600)

Neil reports “her first owner, an atomic scientist working at Orfordness, used his own home made epoxy resin to build up the Fairey Marine kit. When Neil had the hull (in Mark I layout) redecked by Knight & Pink to Mark III, they were unable to dismantle John’s glued joints, after some 60 years, to remove the original deck beams without causing major damage. So they were forced to adapt and reshape the original beams to accept the replacement domed foredeck! John’s glue was a blue/grey colour and is still to be seen under the decks. John named her after some atomic component in “heavy water” and the name has been kept to this day”.
