Chipstead Open Meeting

September 25, 2016

Once again, the Firefly fleet and members at Chipstead SC are especially looking forward to hosting our annual open event, racing for the Walter Smith trophy, competed for annually every year since 1959 – there are some famous names engraved on the cup!

The important stuff –

Sunday, 25 September, Race Officer’s briefing at 10.30, with three races planned during the day.

All competitors, their families, technical advisers, medical teams, admirers, groupies and pit crew are especially welcome, and to enjoy our club’s facilities for the day. The club’s High Command has recently taken on a great new catering team who will be serving bacon butties and breakfasts first thing, and light lunches later on; afternoon tea to follow with, of course, our world renowned cakes! The club offers all the usual facilities, with a good view over the race track from the verandas; a spacious car park just a very short distance from the launching areas.

Reasonable entry fees, with a reduction for youngsters, and some great prizes to win!

Chipstead lake provides enough space and interest for the seasoned racer to enjoy great and amusing sport, but is compact enough for the less experienced to race and feel secure and comfortable. Launching can be from pontoons, so no need even for wet feet!

This event will be round 7 (from 8) of the NFA Vines trophy and round 2 (from 4) of the M25 Championships. Do not forget the final Vines Trophy heat and grand prize-giving at West Oxfordshire SC’s event, 22 October!

Near Sevenoaks, find us just off the intersection between the A21 and A25, very close to Junction 5 of the M25; postcode: TN13 2SD; clubhouse telephone number: 01732 454875

The club’s site includes detailed directions how to find us, but essentially, head for Chipstead village (remember – that is Chipstead, KENT, NOT nearby Chipstead SURREY!), along Chevening Road, and turn right opposite the Bricklayers pub (excellent, highly commended!) the lane is also signed to the Cheshire Home. Car park to the right, foreshore and launching area to the left down a concreted slope, clubhouse directly to your front.

More details as arrangements proceed – be sure to stay tuned to keep in touch!
